How to write a listing that actually sells

A good photo gets the click; the words get the sale. Here's how to write a title people actually search, a description that answers the buyer's real questions, and the details that make a used item feel trustworthy.

A great photo gets the click. The words are what close the sale. I've watched two identical items sit at completely different prices and sell at completely different speeds purely because of how the listing was written. The good news is that a listing that sells isn't clever copywriting โ€” it's just clear, searchable, and honest. Here's how to write one.

The title is a search box, not a headline

On every marketplace, the title is how buyers find your item, so fill it with the exact words someone would type: brand, model, size, color, condition, key features. "Nice cordless drill ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ”ฅ" is invisible; "DeWalt 20V MAX Cordless Drill DCD771 with Battery and Charger" gets found. Skip the emojis and the ALL CAPS โ€” they don't help search and they read as spammy.

The description answers the buyer's real questions

Before someone buys used, they're quietly asking: Does it work? What's wrong with it? What's included? Why are you selling it? Answer those in plain order:

  • What it is โ€” brand, model, specs, size.
  • Condition, honestly โ€” what works, what's worn, any flaws. Naming a small flaw builds more trust than pretending it's perfect.
  • What's included โ€” accessories, cables, original box. "Complete" is worth money; say so if it's true.
  • A quick why โ€” "upgraded, so selling this one" reassures buyers it's not broken.

Honesty sells faster than hype

It feels backwards, but disclosing flaws speeds up the sale. A buyer who sees you're straight about a scratch trusts everything else you said, buys with confidence, and doesn't file a return when it arrives exactly as described. Overselling ("like new!" on a beat-up item) gets you a click, a disappointed buyer, a return, and a bad rating. The whole app is built on the idea that seller claims aren't facts โ€” write the listing you'd want to read as a buyer.

Price it where it sells

The best-written listing still sits if it's overpriced. Anchor the price to real sold comps, price a touch under the median if you want a fast turn, and don't bury a fair price under inflated shipping. And back it with good photos โ€” how to photograph items to sell faster is the other half of this.

Get a head start on the copy

When Worth Radar flags a listing worth flipping, it can also generate a ready-to-post resale draft โ€” a searchable title, a buyer-facing description, a suggested price, and selling-point bullets โ€” grounded in the app's own condition and value analysis. You review and tweak, but the blank-page part is done.

Let Worth Radar do the math

Point it at what you're hunting for, or snap a photo of anything you find โ€” it reads the condition, checks real sold comps, and tells you whether it's worth your time, with a profit-per-hour.
